LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s former MNA Aliya Hamza Malik and social media activist Sanam Javed were reportedly rearrested on Friday in a new case of May 9 riots before their release from Kot Lakhpat jail following bail in Shadman police station attack case.

This time, sources said, the PTI’s both women had been implicated in a case of torching Kamar Mashani police station in Mianwali during the protests on May 9, 2023.

Mianwali police officials visited the jail to interrogate the women in the new case. However, the police could not present them before an anti-terrorism court to get their transit remand to shift them to Mianwali.

They are likely to be presented before the court on Saturday (today).

The robkars for the release of Ms Hamza and Ms Javed had been issued following the submission of surety bonds as the court allowed their bail in the last case against them.

ATC Judge Arshad Javed on Wednesday granted post-arrest bail to the women suspects in the Shadman police station attack case.

Meanwhile, an anti-terrorism court on Friday issued robkars for PTI social media activist Ayesha Ali Bhutta and nine others following their bail in the Jinnah House attack case.

The court on Wednesday had allowed them bail subject to furnishing surety bonds of Rs200,000 each.

ZULFI: A Lahore High Court division bench on Friday issued a notice to the Election Commission of Pakistan on an appeal of PTI’s leader Zulfi Bokhari against rejection of his nomination papers for the Senate election.

Bokhari’s counsel argued that the ECP rejected the nomination papers of the appellant for being a dual national. He said the appellant submitted documentary evidence to the ECP about relinquishing his dual nationality of the UK. He stated that an election tribunal also upheld the decision of the ECP.

The counsel asked the bench to set aside decisions of the ECP and the tribunal for being against the facts and law.

The bench headed by Justice Muzamil Akhtar Shabbir issued notices to the ECP and the attorney general for Pakistan for submission of replies by Saturday (today).
