KARACHI: The city administration on Saturday clamped a complete ban on manufacture, sale and flying of kites in the city for two months.

Commissioner Muhammad Saleem Rajput issued a notification that also banned manufacture, sale and use of strings cords and metallic wire and nylon cord, commonly known as maanjha, used in kite flying.

The notification said that it was brought to the notice of the city administration that some elements were indulged in manufacture and sale of kites, flying string, sharp maanjha, metallic wire and nylon cord, which were causing danger to human life and safety to the general public.

“There are sufficient grounds for proceeding under Section 144 of the criminal procedure code and immediate prevention is desirable and the directions hereinafter appearing are necessary in order to prevent danger to human life and disturbance of the public peace and tranquillity,” it reads.

The commissioner imposed a complete ban within the territorial limits of Karachi with effect from March 30 to May 29.

The notification also authorised SHOs to register FIRs under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code (Disobedience to an order lawfully promulgated by a public servant, if such disobedience causes obstruction, annoyance or injury to persons lawfully employed) for violation of the ban.

Ban on drones

Meanwhile, the city administration also imposed a ban on use of drones in the city for two months.

According to a notification, there are serious threats to vital installations and Chinese Consulate General by anti-state elements and hostile agencies in the wake of recent attacks on Chinese Nationals.
