KARACHI: The newly appointed vice chancellor of the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAST) came under fire by eight members of the varsity’s apex body over some of his decisions that he claimed had been made by the Senate, it has emerged.

In a letter addressed to Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zabita Khan Shinwari, the members of the FUUAST senate expressed concern over the issuance of three letters by the acting registrar mentioning that the documents pertained to decisions taken during the 50th meeting of the senate.

The letter was signed by Wajid Jawad, president Anjuman-i-Taraqqi Urdu Pakistan, Shahid Shafiq, Shakeelur Rahman, Saeed Allahwala, Prof Dr Khalid Anees, Prof Dr Tanveer Khalid, Prof Dr Huma Baqai and Dr Farhan Shafiq.

Moreover, they demanded that the VC promptly suspend these letters and take action against the individuals involved.

They warned that failure to address their demands within five days would lead to legal action.

In a separate letter, Mr Jawad expressed his concerns regarding the content of three ‘illegal letters’ and stated that these were counterfeit and no direct relation to the decisions made by the senate members.

He further stated that out of the 15 senate members, eight had refuted the contents of the alleged letters.

Referring to the letter, Mr Jawad emphasised that these illegal letters had caused distress among FUUAST employees regarding their salaries and job security.

Mr Jawad cautioned the VC that failure to resolve these issues promptly would exacerbate the situation.
