KARACHI, March 12: City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal on Sunday issued suspension orders of a KWSB engineer and other staff for remaining absent from their duties and showing negligence and lack of interest in the work on three bypasses currently under way on the Ibne Sina Road.

The nazim, who paid a surprise visit to the site at 4.30am on Sunday, inspect the work and took notice of the absence of the staff. He observed that despite his directives, not a single responsible official of the KWSB was present at the site where a sewerage pipeline was being laid.

Getting annoyed over it, he kept on contacting the managing director of the KWSB and chief engineer Asudomal but in vain. He then ordered suspension of the engineer and staff concerned.

The nazim also asked the KWSB MD and chief engineer to explain why their officials were absent.

On Friday, the nazim had chaired a meeting, which was attended by DCO Fazalur Rehman, KWSB MD, EDOs of the Works and Services department, contractor and consultant of the bypass project and other officials.

The meeting had decided that officials of the KWSB and the Works and Services Department would work in three shifts at the sites of the underpasses.

TRAFFIC: The city nazim on Sunday discussed the congestion of traffic at Karimabad, Liaquatabad No. 10, Nazimabad and surrounding areas with CCPO Niaz Ahmed Siddiqui, DIG Traffic Falak Khursheed and EDO Transport Ather Hussain. DCO Fazalur Rehman and EDO Works were also present on the occasion.

Reviewing the problem arising out of the ongoing work for the construction of underpasses, he asked the officials besides to deploy traffic police personnel in the affected areas to ensure a smooth flow of traffic.

He directed that alternative routes be cleared of all encroachments and carpeting of these arteries be carried out. He also directed that electric and telephone poles on the roads be relocated.
