PESHAWAR: Minister for labour department Fazal Shakoor Khan on Sunday directed the authorities concerned to expedite work on the labour complex in the Regi Lalma area here to ensure its early completion.

He also issued directives to evict the illegal occupants of flats in the labour colonies.

The provincial minister issued these directives during a visit to the Workers Welfare Board (WWB) office in Hayatabad.

The minister was accompanied by the secretary, chairman and other officers of WWB.

On the occasion, the labour minister was briefed about the marriage and death grants.

He was informed that Rs200 million had been approved for marriage grant, but WWF Islamabad had released only Rs93 million. Similarly, Rs150 million budget for death grant was approved, but only Rs42 million were released.

The minister was informed that the marriage grant was disbursed among 338 and death grant among 70 beneficiaries. Further, the total budget approved for post-matriculation scholarships was Rs1,350 million, but only Rs480 million were released.

Mr Shakoor was also briefed on the present status of Regi Lalma flats. He was informed that external electrification of the labour complex comprising 2,056 flats had been completed. He was told that as soon as Peshawar Electric Supply Company extended power supply to the complex, WWB would apply for the issuance of a demand notice to install individual energy meters for the energising its flats for occupancy.

The minister was also informed about the board’s Haj policy. He was told that every year WWB sent 10 industrial workers on the pilgrimage through open balloting.
