KOHAT: The office-bearers of Kohat Small Industrial Estate have asked the newly-elected MPA Daud Afridi from PK-91 to push for reviving the proposed special economic zone to be set up over 2,000 acres of land, 1,000 acres each in Kohat and Karak districts.

They made the demand during a meeting with the lawmaker here on Monday.

The businessmen were led by former vice-president of Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Rasheed Paracha.

They apprised the lawmaker that vast oil and gas reserves in the region could attract big investments, which would help check unemployment.

They said the special economic zone had a big scope and the investors would benefit from concessions offered in gas, electricity tariffs and tax exemptions.

On the occasion, MPA Afridi said he would take up the issue with Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.

At another meeting held in the industrial estate, MNA Shehryar Afridi, MPA Shafi Jan and provincial law minister Aftab Alam said they would take up the matter of plot distribution in the industrial estate with the chief minister.

Deputy commissioner Dr Azmatullah Wazir, district police officer Umer Khan, Rasheed Paracha and members of the industrial estate union were also in attendance.

DPO Umer Khan assured the meeting that arrangements would be made for the security of the industrial estate.

SHOT DEAD: Unidentified motorcyclists killed a medical technician of the District Headquarters Hospital, Kurram, in Noor Elahi Colony here on Monday.

Asif Khan, a sub-inspector at the Saddar police station, told Dawn that the slain along with friends was sitting in a hotel when two motorcyclists came there and shot him dead.

He said apparently, the murder seemed to be over a money dispute.

However, he said a case had been registered against unknown persons under section 302 of Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of Sabir Nawaz, brother of Adil Nawaz.
