LAKKI MARWAT: The police repulsed a militant attack on a post in Lakki city in the wee hours on Monday.

An official said armed assailants attacked the post in a bid to breach it, but the cops deployed there foiled their attempt.

“The law enforcers returned the fire with light and heavy weapons and forced the attackers to flee,” he maintained.

The official said the cops were fully alert and when militants launched the attack they responded quickly and effectively.

The official said policemen remained unhurt in the attack. He said reinforcements also reached the post and a search was launched in the area for the attackers.

Meanwhile, a target killer was killed and a Counter-Terrorism Department’s personnel sustained injuries during an exchange of fire in Miryan area of Bannu on Monday.

A police official said the CTD commandos along with a large police contingent launched action on information about the presence of target killers in the rural locality.

“There were reports about the presence of target killers near a seminary to target policemen escorting polio teams,” he maintained.

He said the law enforcers cordoned off the area and launched a search for the suspects. “During the operation, the armed men attacked the police party, injuring a CTD official,” he added.

He said police returned the shots and an exchange of fire continued for some time.

“When firing stopped the law enforcers found the body of a target killer, who was later identified as Ismail,” he claimed, saying the suspect was wanted by the police in cases of attacks on police installations, target killing and terrorism.

He said the police also seized a hand grenade, arms and ammunition from him.
