KARACHI: A young man was shot dead in Azizabad on Sunday evening, police said.

They said that Shahab Salamat, 22, was targeted by unidentified assailants near Almas Masjid, Azizabad-8. The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

The victim’s family and his relatives staged a sit-in and blocked the main road in the Yaseenabad area in protest over the killing by what they called drug mafia.

However, Central SSP Zeeshan Shafiq Siddiqi said that the murder appeared to be an outcome of some ‘personal dispute’. However, he did not elaborate.

Azizabad SHO Imran Afridi said that one of the suspects allegedly involved in the murder was identified as Sahil. He said that the victim belonged to the Christian community.

He said the suspect had a past criminal record as he was booked in two murder cases.

Meanwhile, the victim’s family and relatives lit bonfires on the main road due to which vehicular traffic remained suspended on the busy road connecting Gulshan-i-Iqbal and Federal B Area.

They dispersed peacefully after assurances by the police that the killers would be arrested.
