ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Volleyball Federa­t­ion (PVF) on Tuesday announced a 14-member squ­ad for the Engro Central Asian Volleyball Lea­gue, which will be held from May 11 to 17 in Islamabad.

The squad for the six-nation event was selected by the team’s head coach Ruben Wolochin, who belongs to Argentina.

The event will feature teams from hosts Pakistan, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Sri Lanka, Turkmenistan and Afghanistan.

According to a statement issued by the PVF, seasoned Murad Jehan will lead the team in the league while Mohammad Kashif Naveed will serve as his deputy.

Other members of the squad include Waleed Khan, Murad Khan, Aimal Khan, Usman Faryad Ali, Fakhar Ud Din, Afaq Khan, Abdul Zaheer, Musawer Khan, Mohammad Hamad, Ali Haider, Nasir Ali and Mohammad Yaseen.

Saeed Ahmad Khan Sady and Ehsan Iqbal are the team’s assistant coaches while Brazilian Lucas Rodrigues is the physical trainer for this championship.

According to the draws, Pakistan play their opening match against Afghanistan on May 11.

Speaking to Dawn, PVF chairman Chaudhry Mohammad Yaqoob said that the event would help Pakistan get momentum ahead of Australia’s maiden visit (May 28-30) to the country and the Challenge Cup to be hosted by Bahrain in June.
