KARACHI, March 15: Leader of Opposition in Sindh Assembly Nisar Ahmad Khuhro said on Wednesday that the PPP chairperson, Benazir Bhutto, would return home prior to 2007 general elections “if incumbent government did not create hindrances”.

Talking to PPI, he said that if the government did not initiate further ‘fake cases’ against Benazir Bhutto, her arrival is possible as Pakistan is her home.”

After Benazir’s acquittal in PIA and Surrey Palace cases, now the government has started concocting other cases against her to keep her out of politics, he maintained.

Nisar Ahmad Khuhro accused the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) of turning a blind eye to corrupt elements belonging to the ruling quarters.

He said due to lack of transparent accountability process, confidence of people in judicatory had shaken.

Defending the human rights report issued by the US on March 9 regarding rights situation in Pakistan, he said the report was based on what had been happening in the country.

He said that recent incidents of human rights abuses were the worst in the history of Pakistan.

He charged that the foreign policy of the government had completely failed, and added that on one hand India had still been demanding an end to infiltration into Jammu-Kashmir from Azad Kashmir, and on other Afghanistan had been accusing Pakistan of border infiltrations. He said that the US was continuously demanding from Pakistan to “do more to curb terrorism.”

Criticizing unprecedented inflation, high unemployment ratio, and worsening law and order situation, he charged that the government had failed to deliver the goods. He said that Pakistan’s future was linked to a true democracy and restoration of 1973 Constitution in its original form.
