RAWALPINDI: The residents of Bahria Town on Saturday staged a protest at Phase-VIII against exorbitant electricity bills and unauthorised increase in various charges.

The protest was supported by Brace organisation and Tajir Itehad, the real-estate business community, reflecting the residents’ commitment to challenge what they saw as unjust and illegal practices of the society management.

Speaking on the occasion,Tahir Nihad Bajwa, president Brace organisation, said the society management should solve issues related to extra electricity bills and encroachments. He said the residents had declared a complete boycott of electricity and maintenance bills issued by the housing society.

In response to the boycott call, he said, the society had issued warning letters to the residents.

Tahir Butt, Bahria Town’s land and building director, arrived at the protest venue and assured the participants of resolving their issues.

After getting assurance from the Bahria Town management, the protesters dispersed peacefully. However, later Mr Bajwa alleged that the society management dug up a road in front of his and other residents’ houses and severed their electricity connections.
