BAHAWALPUR: A retired police official, along with his son, allegedly shot his wife and a daughter dead, besides seriously injuring his other son, over a property issue at 12-A village in the wee hours of Tuesday, in the limits of Baghdadul Jadid police station.

According to district police, the double murder is allegedly a sequel to a family dispute over land and marriage issue of the daughters of the suspect and the murdered woman, Tabbasum Parveen.

The police said retired policeman Aslam and his son Ahmed managed to flee after killing Tabbasum Parveen (55), daughter Sidra Bibi (22) and injuring his other son Shehzad Khurram.

On receipt of information, a police party rushed to the scene and shifted the bodies to the Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH) for a postmortem examination. The injured youth was also admitted to the BVH for treatment.

The police on the complaint of the deceased woman, Tabbasum’s brother, Adnan Sadiq, registered the FIR No 801/24 under sections 302, 324 and 34 of the PPC against the suspects.

The police say teams have been dispatched for their arrest.

COPS ARRESTED: Mumtazabad, Multan, police station house officer (SHO) and his four subordinates have been arrested on charges of selling the seized foreign liquor, instead of depositing it with Malkhana.

According to police sources, after the recovery of a consignment of foreign liquor from paddlers, SHO Muhammad Asif kept it in his office and in connivance with ASI Imran, moharrar Aqeel, naib moharrar Arsalan and Malkhana moharrar Majid Ali, showed in the

FIR that charas had been seized from the suspects.

The SHO and his subordinates then allegedly sold the seized liquor to a woman, Khadeja Bibi and her accomplices Dilawar and Danish, who were later arrested by New Multan police, along with the liquor.

The three suspects, during interrogation, told New Multan police that they had bought the liquor from Mumtazabad SHO Asif.

Multan City Police Officer Sadiq Dogar, taking notice of the issue, suspended the police officials involved in the matter and ordered their arrest.

The police have so far arrested three of the suspects, while raids are being conduced to nab the remaining two police officials.

The CPO has also ordered a departmental inquiry against the accused police officials.

BAN: Bahawalpur Commissioner Nadir Chattha has imposed a ban on the use of plastic bottles plates, cups and other such items in the government offices in the division.

According to a handout issued here on Tuesday, the commissioner directed the regional, divisional and district heads of all government departments in the division to stop using the plastic items in their officed, immediately.

ADJOURNED: The Bahawalpur Bench of Lahore High Court (LHC) adjourned the hearing ofa petition challenging the appointment of ten special secretaries in south Punjab till May 27.

In the petition, the PTI’s former minister Samiullah Chaudhry, through his counsel Aftab Mubarak, submitted that these appointments have been made by the Punjab government to render the south Punjab secretariat in Multan and Bahawalpur powerless.

The plea states that it is also an attempt to withdraw the powers of 17 administrative secretaries posted in the south secretariat.

Chaudhry’s counsel argued in the case, after which the LHC bench invited further legal assistance and opinions, fixing the next hearing for May 27.
