KARACHI: A policewoman was critically injured in an acid attack allegedly by her husband in Baldia Town on Wednesday evening, police and hospital officials said.

DIG-South Syed Asad Raza said that suspect Ameen threw acid on his wife Iqra, 30, near the Khursheedpura graveyard within the remit of the Saeedabad police station and fled.

The victim was taken to the Burns Centre of the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi for treatment.

Police Surgeon Summaiya Syed said that the victim had suffered 33 per cent burn wounds on her face, chest and other parts of body and was not fit to give her statement.

The DIG said that she was a constable in Balochistan police.

Investigators visited the crime scene and recorded statement of a security guard who was an eyewitness of the incident.

The witness told the investigators that the suspect threw acid and ran away. The police said they have reports that the suspect has fled to Quetta and ‘efforts are being made to arrest him’.

Meanwhile, police on Wednesday claimed to have recovered two teenage girls and an infant boy, who were abducted from Surjani Town.

SSP-West Dr Hafeezur Rehman Bugti said that the three victims were kidnapped on different days. The police launched an investigation after registering three separate kidnapping cases.

Acting on a tip-off, they conducted raids at three separate places and recovered the victims safely and arrested two suspected kidnappers.
