KARACHI: Pakistan’s first ever Proton therapy-based cancer hospital will be established in Karachi to provide free of cost treatment.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) for this was signed between the JDC Foundation and Shamim Sheikhani Foundation at the Governor House.

Proton therapy is a precise form of radiation treatment that uses protons to target tumours directly with sub-millimetre accuracy. Unlike traditional radiation, it minimises damage to surrounding healthy tissue, potentially reducing side effects.

Appreciating the JDC services, Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori said that JDC Secretary General Zafar Abbas had joined hands with Dr Ali Sheikhani to set up a first state-of-the-art and free cancer hospital to use Proton-based therapy for treatment of various cancers.

Mr Abbas said that majority of the people could not even afford cancer diagnosis let alone the treatment.
