TOBA TEK SINGH: A mentally challenged woman was raped by a man in connivance with his two accomplices in the Majhi Sultan area of Jhang on Saturday.

The complainant alleged in the first information report (FIR) that his sister was alone at home when the suspect, a resident of their locality, broke into their house along with his two accomplices. The main suspect overpowered his sister with the help of his accomplices and raped her.

District Police Officer Muhammad Rahid Hidayat said the main suspect had been arrested and raids were being conducted to arrest his accomplices.

MURDERED: A newly-married woman was murdered by her husband at Chak 503-GB of tehsil Tandlianwala of Faisalabad.

The suspect, Fida Hussain, reached the bank of a drain outside the village along with his wife, Saima, as his pillion. He stopped the motorcycle and shot Saima dead.

Tandlianwala DSP Masood Nazir informed the reporters that Saima was a native of Sheikhupura who was recently married to Fida, a resident of Chak 499-GB. He said the couple quarreled over some issue and the suspect took his wife to a deserted place near the drain where he shot her dead.

Mamukanjan police registered a case but failed to arrest the suspect. The body of the victim was shifted to the Mamukanjan Rural Health Centre for a post-mortem.

LAID TO REST: An army soldier, Ali Raza, who had embraced martyrdom in North Waziristan, was laid to rest in his native village Chak 271-RB Chitti Kothi in Faisalabad district in Dijkot area.

An army contingent, led by a colonel, presented a guard of honour. The army men laid floral wreaths on his grave on behalf of the chief of army staff.

Scores of people participated in the funeral prayers for the deceased.
