LAHORE: A Haj pilgrim destined to leave for Saudi Arabia on Saturday night was shot dead while his son was injured over robbery resistance in Iqbal Town on Saturday.

Police said Farooq of Najaf Colony sent his son, Shoaib, to buy Riyals from the market. When he returned home after buying Riyals from a money exchanger on The Mall, two robbers, believed to be chasing him, held him up at the main gate.

Police said when Shoaib resisted, the robbers opened fire at him and his father who had just opened the door. Shoaib suffered a bullet wound in the leg and his father in the chest. They were taken to a nearby hospital where his father was declared dead on arrival.

Police registered a case and started investigation.
