LOWER DIR: The secondary school teachers’ welfare association on Saturday demanded of the elementary and secondary education department to promote the eligible senior teachers to the posts of headmasters and subject specialists before May 30.

Talking to reporters here, the association’s district president Malik Imran and others said promotion of women SSTs had been pending for last six years.

Mr Imran said SSTs occupied a key position in the education system, but the cadre had been deprived of its rights. He said the Peshawar High Court and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government had decided to grant grade 17 to all SSTs, but the decision was yet to be implemented by the department.

Mr Imran also demanded increasing science teaching allowance from Rs200 to Rs5,000, and payment of allowance to the teachers holding PhD and MPhil degrees in the province on the pattern of Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan.

Malik Imran said the departmental promotion committee had also recommended promoting SSTs to the post of headmaster and subject specialist.

He also demanded an appropriate increase in the salaries of all government employees in the upcoming budget.

He said SSTs’ welfare association planned to come onto the roads if their demands were not met.

SEMINAR: A three-day skills development seminar titled ‘Amazon business model and opportunities for youth in e-commerce’ arranged by the district administration in collaboration with the youth affairs’ department concluded here the other day.

Youths and students of colleges and seminaries from across the district participated.

Speaking on the occasion, Mohammad Jalil, a trainer, shed light on Amazon business model, private labels, wholesale, online business and virtual assistance.

He also informed the participants about the importance of freelancing.

Another speaker, Ihtishamul Haq informed the participants about the concept of e-merchant and its future in the country. He asked youths to seek e-commerce opportunities and make their future bright.

District youth officer Malik Shehzad Tariq said the department would also arrange e-commerce and online business seminars and workshops at tehsil level.

Shields were distributed among guests and the participants.
