ISLAMABAD: Four persons riding a car and chased by Rawalpindi Dolphin Squad entered the capital and crossed two major checkposts without being stopped and were later arrested after their vehicle overturned and taken to Rawalpindi.

The Dolphin Squad police was present at Faizabad in Rawalpindi when they spotted a recklessly driven Alto coming from Sixth Road side. On suspicion, when the squad signaled the car to stop, the driver tried to hit the policemen and sped away towards Islamabad, said the police.

However, the police officials remained unhurt. The riders of the car also opened fire on the Dolphin Squad. They resorted to aerial firing when the squad chased them. The suspected car was chased to Srinagar Highway by the Dolphin Squad when it overturned, the Rawalpindi police said. As a result, the four riders of the car sustained injuries and were later shifted to hospital by officials of the capital police.

Over the incident, a case was registered at the New Town police station of Rawalpindi against the car riders.

The capital police said the car overturned near Rose and Jasmine Garden after one of it tyres burst from the firing of the Rawalpindi police.

When contacted, a spokesman for the capital police confirmed the incident. Asked how the car riders entered Islamabad, crossed pickets at Faizabad and Srinagar Highway near Zero Point where police were deployed, he said there was no firing from the car in the limits of Islamabad.

When asked how the Rawalpindi police took the suspects to Rawalpindi from the hospital without producing them before a magistrate and obtaining their transit remand, the spokesman said the incident started in Rawalpindi and it was a case of hot pursuit. The case was also registered in Rawalpindi so the capital police did not initiate any legal action, he added.
