MUZAFFARGARH: A child died while nine other schoolchildren were injured when the verandah of a private school collapsed, burying the students under it at Kalarwali Pull in tehsil Jatoi.

The students of Tariq Bin Ziad School were studying when the incident happened. One of the students, identified as Muhammad Maki, died on the spot while two other students were stated to be in critical condition at the District Headquarters Hospital Muzaffargarh.

After the incident, the rescue officials were called from Shehr Sultan who brought children out of the rubble.

Deputy Commissioner Mian Usman Ali issued the orders for an inquiry into the incident and asked the officials to check the building certificate of the school. Sources said the school did not have a certificate though it was registered with the authorities concerned. The locals demanded the authorities to cancel the registration of the school.
