KARACHI: Police on Wednesday claimed to have busted a gang allegedly involved in child trafficking and prostitution by arresting six suspects and recovering three children.
“We have busted a gang involved in trafficking of children for prostitution,” Orangi SP Saad Bin Ubaid told a press conference at his office.
He said that on May 11, a boy had gone missing in Orangi Town.
The investigation of the case helped the police to arrest six suspects who subjected children to criminal assault and also trafficked them for prostitution, he added.
He said that members of that gang used to groom teenage boys at video game shops and snooker clubs and later on they forced the children into prostitution.
He believed that the gang had been active in Karachi for the last two-and-a-half years and they mostly targeted boys who were either fed up with their families because of strict atmosphere or came from other provinces and needed shelter in the metropolis.
DIG-West Irfan Ali Baloch said that the police were trying to arrest other members of the gang.
He said they were also involved in child pornography as several videos had also been recovered from their custody.
