LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Punjab’s imprisoned president Dr Yasmin Rashid had to be hospitalised on Wednesday after she fell sick in Kot Lakhpat Jail, allegedly for lack of timely treatment.
Dr Rashid’s lawyer advocate Rana Mudassar Umer told Dawn that she was shifted to Services Hospital in an ambulance only after she fell unconscious on Wednesday.
He alleged that the 72-year-old senior PTI leader, who is a cancer survivor, was not provided treatment by the jail authorities on Tuesday despite continuous vomiting and stomach issue.
Dr Rashid has been in prison for almost a year now in connection with multiple cases registered against her following May 9 riots erupting countrywide after the arrest of PTI founder Imran Khan.
She was detained on May 12 last year under the Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance and later arrested for her alleged involvement in the May 9 riots. The PTI leaders say detention of prisoners for such long periods without trial is not allowed under the law but the government had least respect for the Constitution.
