QUETTA: The Balochistan government has fired 280 teachers and terminated their services for not attending the schools they were hired for.

Balochistan education secretary Saleh Mohammad Nasir informed Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti on Wednesday that 600 more teachers would be sacked within the next 10 days as per his directive.

“These teachers had been continuously absent from their duties for a long time, but receiving their salaries regularly,” the education secretary told the chief minister.

He said that at least 2000 teachers working in the education department were continuously receiving salaries without performing their duties and most of them were out of the country.

The secretary said action had been initiated against 2,000 teachers who had been absent from duty for a long time, after issuing a show-cause notice to all of them. He said legal proceedings had also been expedited to sack the remaining 1,200 teachers.
