SOUTH WAZIRISTAN/BAJAUR: A 14-year-old boy was injured when an explosive device exploded in Laley Zhai area of Tiaraza tehsil of Upper South Waziristan on Thursday evening.

Armanullah Mehsud, the only son of his parents, was seriously injured in the roadside blast and feared losing an eye, District Police Officer Malik Habib told Dawn.

He was given the first aid by 254 FC Wing Karama and later referred to Dera Ismail Khan CMH due to his serious injuries, the DPO said. Some locals said that it was an old bomb planted somewhere along the road.

Meanwhile in Bajaur, the police on Thursday defused a roadside bomb planted by unknown miscreants in Khar tehsil.

According to a police source, the improvised explosive device (IED) was planted along the Khar-Inayat Kallay Road in Nawai Kallay area by unknown miscreants early Thursday morning.

It said that upon receiving the information from local people, members of police bomb disposal squad ( BDS) along with personnel of security forces immediately moved to the area and safely defused the device after more than two hours effort.
