BAJAUR: A shopkeeper was shot dead by unidentified armed men in Khar bazaar of Bajaur tribal district on Saturday.

Traders and police said that attackers opened firing on shopkeeper Samiullah when he was entering a market in Khar bazaar at about 4pm. They said that he was injured in the attack and shifted to district headquarters hospital Khar for treatment.

However, they said that the 32-year-old shopkeeper could not survive. The deceased belonged to Thangi area of Khar tehsil. The attackers managed to escape.

Trades expressed concerns over the incident and said that murder of the shopkeeper created a sense of insecurity among them. They termed it a failure of police.

RELIEF: Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) on Saturday provided relief packages to 220 families affected by the recent rains and floods in Bajaur tribal district.

The packages including tents, tarpaulins, agricultural tools and kitchen sets to the affected families were handed over at a ceremony held in Civil Colony, Khar.

Senior officials of district administration, PRCS and PDMA attended the ceremony. The assistant commissioner, Mohibullah Khan Yousafzi, distributed relief packages among the affected families belonging to different areas of the district.

He thanked PRCS for arranging relief packages for the affected families.

He said that district administration was concerned about the early provision of relief packages to the affected families. He added administration was unable to provide relief packages to them timely owing to unavailability of any items with the local PDMA office, forcing it to request the PRCS for the same.

PRCS local head Javed Iqbal said that the relief packages were provided to affected families with financial support of International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC).

The affected families on the occasion thanked PRCS and district administration for providing them with necessary items.
