KHYBER: Speakers at a seminar in Bara here on Sunday stressed the need for collective efforts to eradicate abuse of drugs in society.

Zhwand Foundation and Khyber Youth Organisation arranged the event at Sir Sahibzada Abdul Qayyum Model School that was attended by a sizeable number of youth activists and members of civil society.

Motivational speaker Alam Afridi talked in detail about the preventive measures against drug addiction. He urged youth to indulge in healthy and creative activities to avoid falling prey to addiction of any illegal drug, which could prove fatal for their mental as well as physical health.

He called upon parents and teachers to keep a constant watch on their children and students and monitor their activities while at school and home along with surveillance of their overall behaviour in order to timely detect any inclination towards use of narcotics or any other hazardous drug.

The medical superintendent of Dogra hospital, Dr Alamgir, said on the occasion that joint efforts were needed for a drug-free and prosperous society.

He stressed the need for preventing oneself and the whole society from the negative effects of narcotics while working together to effectively control the spread of illegal drugs.

LOADSHEDDING: The residents of Landi Kotal on Sunday demanded provision of six hours of electricity, transfer of all the grid station staff and a judicious distribution of electricity on different feeders.

In a meeting held at Landi Kotal bazaar, they accused the grid station staff of subjecting them to almost 20 hours of loadshedding in violation of the pledge the grid authorities had made with them about provision of six-hour electricity about a week ago.

They threatened to besiege the grid station and take control of all the power installations if their demands were not accepted within three days.
