BAHAWALPUR: A man allegedly axed his two minor daughters at Tibbi Data Khan village on Monday when a court bailiff along with police officials reached his house for the recovery of the children on his wife’s petition.

According to police sources, suspect Sarfraz had strained relations with his wife Aasia Bano. While staying with her parents, she sought the court’s help to recover her two daughters, who were with their father. When the court bailiff and police arrived at Sarfraz’s house to retrieve the children, he was asked to hand them over. Sarfraz then flew into a rage and, after telling the bailiff to wait outside, went inside the house and allegedly killed his daughters Tayyaba (5) and Liaba (4) with an axe. After the incident, Sarfraz courted arrest.

Police spokesman Umar Saleem told Dawn that upon receiving the information, police officials and the crime scene unit rushed to the house and shifted the bodies to the health centre for postmortem examination. A first information report under section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code has been registered against Sarfraz on his wife’s complaint.
