SUKKUR: Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Pir Mohammad Shah has said that police will be getting sophisticated weapons, including anti-aircraft guns, to wipe out gangs of dacoits and other criminals in the ongoing operation in the riverine areas of upper Sindh districts.

Speaking to the media here on Sunday, the DIG said that police had completed preparation for a massive operation against gangs in the riverine areas of Sukkur, Khairpur and Gotki districts.

He said people of these district must stop worrying, and added: “we are determined to overrun all hideouts and shelters of dacoits and eliminate the gangs”.

He said police were going to establish more than 100 pickets across the [gang-infested] riverine belt of Rwanti and some other such areas including Raza Goth, located in Pannu Aqil.

“A very close surveillance is under way to keep a watchful eye on movement and activities of outlaws,” he said, and held out the assurance that no dacoit or extortionist and their facilitator would be spared. “We will make them an example and teach them such a lesson that even their generations will not forget,” the DIG remarked.

In reply to a question, he said police were working on a plan to ensure safety and security of commuters along the Sukkur-Multan section of motorway.
