KARACHI: The Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) has decided to write a letter to the chief justice of Pakistan (CJP) against a crisis-like situation and growing lawlessness in the country, especially in Sindh, and vindictive actions against political opponents of the federal and provincial governments.

A decision to this effect was taken on Wednesday in the meeting of the core committee of the GDA, chaired by Pir Pagara and attended by Ghulam Murtaza Jatoi, Syed Sadruddin Shah Rashidi, Dr Safdar Abbasi, Liaquat Jatoi, Syed Zain Shah, Ayaz Latif Plajo and others.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Sadruddin Shah Rashidi said that the core committee expressed grave concern over the deteriorating political and economic situation in the country.

He said that Sindh was the only province where lawlessness was on the rise. “There is no such thing as law here. Law institutions are sowing the seeds of lawlessness in the province,” he added.

He said that people at the important positions should take notice of the situation in Sindh, lest it be too late. He said that the GDA was of the view that half of the country had been lost due to sense of deprivation.

“We are stopping the people of Sindh from agitation and we don’t want a situation like Kashmir to happen in the province,” he added.

The GDA leader said that when Nawaz Sharif had come to meet Pir Pagara, he had made it clear to him that the caretaker set-up in Sindh was a continuation of the past government.

He said that the GDA core committee would meet again on June 1, in which decisions taken in the Wednesday’s meeting would be reviewed.
