KARACHI: Residents of Karachi braved the hottest day of the current season on Wednesday when the temperature increased to 41.5 degree Celsius.

The Met Office warned that the harsh weather conditions would prevail in the metropolis for the next three days.

It said that the current weather trend showed a significance rise in the monthly average temperature, which on Wednesday was 5.7°C higher than the average temperature of 35.8°C in May.

The highest temperature recorded in Karachi in the month of May was 48°C on May 9, 1938.

The Met Office said that the current heatwave conditions would prevail till June 1 with daytime maximum temperatures would increase to 41-43°C in Karachi division and 43-45°C in Thatta, Badin and Sujawal districts.

Jacobabad, Dadu hottest cities in province

With 51°C, Jacobabad and Dadu remained the hottest cities in the province followed by Khairpur, Larkana and Mohenjo Daro (50°C), Sukkur, Nawabshah and Rohri (49°C), Sakrand, Padidan and Hyderabad (48°C) and Mithi (44°C).

According to the Heatwave Early Warning Centre of the Met department, the severe heatwave conditions persist across most parts of the province with daytime maximum temperature being 06-08°C above normal in Larkana and Sukkur divisions and Naushahro Feroze and Shaheed Benazirabad districts, while 05-07°C in Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas divisions and Sanghar district.
