WITH Eidul Azha approaching, there is a valid concern among the masses about waste mismanagement during the three-day festivities. As happens every year, improper disposal of animal remains poses a serious health hazard. The streets remain littered with the remains of cattle once they have been sacrificed. The dried blood and decaying waste, present in almost every street and lane across the city, attract hordes of flies and insects that are extremely dangerous to people’s health. Besides, the stinking smell around localities makes life seriously unpleasant.

Due arrangements should be made in advance this year to make the festival a truly solemn occasion. Specific places should be designated for the purpose, and it should be made mandatory on all people to take their animals to those very places. This is only possible through strict imposition of a complete ban on offering sacrifice in the lanes and streets of residential areas. As such, government teams should be assigned the task of collecting the remains as soon as possible from the roads throughout the three days of Eid.

By taking such measures, we can hope to maintain cleanliness of our city, and the health as well as wellbeing of our people during Eidul Azha this year.
