LAHORE: The working class staged a rally in front of the Lahore Press Club on Wednesday to observe a demand day.

The workers held the rally under the aegis of the All Pakistan Federation of Trade Unions, carrying banners in support of their demands.

They urged the government to raise pay and pension of the workers engaged in government and semi-government departments, Wapda / Discos, Railways, private sector and banks in the upcoming federal and provincial budgets by 50 per cent and check price hike.

They appealed to the government to get ensured prevention of fatal and non-fatal accidents of workers at workplace due to unsafe working conditions. They said 10 power workers had died within a month during the performance of their duty in Discos.

They said the prime minister should review the decision of privatisation of national entities and sought his intervention to get stopped the sufferings of the nation by imposing taxes on feudal lords and elite of the country.

The workers also demanded the Balochistan chief minister to take measures to stop accidents of coal miners as a number of workers have died since January 2024.

The rally was addressed by federation secretary general Khurshid Ahmad and other trade union representatives.
