QUETTA: Balochistan Minister for Education Raheela Hameed Khan Durrani has expressed her disappointment over the performance of educational institutions in the province and said there is need to reform the provincial education system.

Speaking at the launching ceremony of the Balochistan Assessment and Examination Commission’s report here, she said despite being in the 21st century the education system in the province has not changed much, adding that teachers are not being paid their salary on time and the Higher Education Commission (HEC) has stopped funding Balochistan universities.

“I have formed a council comprising pro-vice chancellors to make a comprehensive uniform policy for universities and members of the council will meet Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to discuss this important issue,” she said, adding that teachers’ training and curriculum reform was badly needed in the province.

Ms Durrani said the education system could not be improved by a single minister or a secretary but it required every individual’s efforts and a collective responsibility.

She said the world had made progress by giving priority to education system, but Balochistan was lagging behind and its education system needed reforms.

She praised the Balochistan Assessment and Examination Commission’s report saying it shows the work has been done in this sector.
