LAHORE: The University of Health Sciences (UHS) Advanced Studies and Research Board (ASRB) has approved the MPhil/PhD committee’s recommendation to revise the eligibility criteria for admission to MPhil and Master degree programmes.

Chaired by UHS Vice Chancellor Prof Ahsan Waheed Rathore, the 202ndmeeting of the ASRB held here on Thursday.

Under the new criteria, candidates must achieve a minimum score of 75 per cent in the University’s Postgraduate Entrance Test to be eligible for admission. Previously, the requirement was 50 per cent.

Additionally, the board waived the requirement of a minimum of two years of relevant experience for admission. Now, fresh graduates are eligible to apply for MPhil and Master’s degree programmes at UHS.

The board considered 45 reports on thesis submitted by the students and also approved panel of examinations for thesis submitted by Sana Iqbal (Ph.D in Human Genetics & Molecular Biology), Osheen Sajjad (Ph.D in Human Genetics & Molecular Biology), Madiha Shakoor (Ph.D in Human Genetics & Molecular Biology), Shumaila Habib (Ph.D in Human Genetics & Molecular Biology) and Dr. Huma Saeed Khan (Ph.D in Physiology).

breast cancer: The Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) and the Pink Ribbon Pakistan on Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for participating in breast cancer awareness activities.

PHEC Chairperson Dr Shahid Munir, Pink Ribbon Pakistan Chief Executive Officer Umar Aftab and six women’s universities of Punjab signed the MoU at Arfa Karim Tower.

The main purpose of the ceremony was to highlight lack of awareness about breast cancer among women, resulting in their failure to get diagnosed at an early stage.

On the occasion, Dr Munir said the two entities would jointly work to promote breast cancer awareness through various activities in women’s universities in Punjab.

Mr Aftab thanked Dr Munir for support for the cause by the PHEC.

Lahore College for Women University Vice Chancellor Dr Shagufta Naz, Home Economics University VC Dr Faleeha Zahra Kazmi, Rawalpindi Women University VC Dr Anila Kamal, Government College Women University Sialkot VC Dr Zareen Fatima Rizvi and Registrar of Women Sadiq University, Bahawalpur, Dr Fatima Mazhar and Dr Salma from Government College Women University, Madina Town, Faisalabad, participated in the event.

According to the MoU, women’s universities will support Pink Ribbon for academic studies, research and development projects, case studies and hospital business modelling. Seminars and workshops will also be conducted to highlight important aspects of breast cancer.

For this purpose, the universities will invite students, faculty members and alumni to contribute and raise funds for the awareness campaign.
