KOHAT: The members of All Tajir Ittehad have demanded of the government to initiate an inquiry into wheat procurement from Punjab instead of buying the commodity from local farmers.

The demand was made in a meeting that was largely attended by the office-bearers of Bannu bazaar, Teerah bazaar, Zargran bazaar, Mian Khel bazaar and Jail Road bazaar. Goods transporters, poultry and dry fruit sellers, hotel owners, LPG traders and representatives of chemists associations also attended the meeting.

Tajir Ittehad chief Ameer Khan Afridi presided over the meeting and demanded a probe into the wheat purchase from Punjab. The meeting criticised imposition of heavy fine by Halal food authority on shopkeepers.

Through a unanimously passed resolution, the participants of the meeting demanded end to power and gas outages. They decided to move a court against loadshedding and hold protests if the issue was not resolved.

They demanded completion of Liaquat Memorial Women and Children Hospital and upgradation of KDA divisional hospital to Category A. They sought inquiry into sinking of a tubewell in Garden Colony at a cost Rs 6.5 million that went dry after three days of inauguration.

COLLEGE: An academic block of government girls postgraduate college completed at a cost of Rs14.19 million was inaugurated by students on Thursday.

MNA Sheharyar Afridi was chief guest at the ceremony, which was also attended by MPA Shafiullah Jan, principal Ms Musrrat, controller of Kohat board, faculty members and students.

A student cut the ribbon of the plaque in the presence of lawmakers to open the new block.

Speaking on the occasion, MNA Sheharyar Afridi said that education and health were the basic rights of people due to which the two sectors were placed on priority by the government of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf.

He said that no society could make progress without education.
