SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: Heavy rain coupled with hailstorm lashed Wana, the district headquarters Lower South Waziristan, damaging fruit orchards and standing vegetable crops.

Farmers said the hailstorm inflicted heavy financial losses on them. They demanded of the government to compensate them for the losses.

Shah Hussain Wazir, a farmer, urged the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to release funds for the affected farmers in Wana.

On the one hand, rain broke the heatwave and turned the weather pleasant. However, electric supply was disrupted across the district.

JIRGA: Inspector General Frontier Corps (IGFC) South Maj-Gen Haroon Hameed Chaudhry held a jirga with Wazir tribal elders at Wana Scouts hall here on Friday.

The jirga was attended by tribal elders from nine tribes of Ahmadzai Wazir, youth, ulema and traders.

Lower South Waziristan deputy commissioner Mohammad Nasir Khan was also present.

Gen Hameed appreciated Ahmadzai Wazirs’ unwavering support to the security forces for the establishment of peace in the region.

He highlighted various economic measures taken for the development of the district, restoration of 3G/4G Internet service, impact of smuggling at the national level, and assured to continue efforts to ensure peace and stability in the region.

On this occasion, the tribal elders called for revival of the anti-narcotics campaign and the resolution of the problems related to policing.

They said steps should be taken for implementation of the One Document Regime at the Angoor Ada border terminal.

It is worth mentioning here that the local people have been holding protest demonstrations at Angoor Adda border crossing for last seven months to demand visa exemption for the local tribes for Afghanistan.
