SWABI: The residents on Friday demanded of the district administration to ensure naanbais slashed the price of roti after a significant reduction in the rates of wheat grain and flour.

The price of 20-kilogramme wheat flour bag has been reduced from Rs3,200 to Rs1,800 across the district. However, the rate of roti has not been reduced.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government had announced in April that the price of 100 grams and 200 grams roti would be Rs15 and Rs30, respectively. However, here in Swabi, the 100-gram roti has been sold at Rs20 and that of 200-gram at Rs40.

Mehrab Gul, a resident of Maneri area, told Dawn that the district administration didn’t take interest in checking the rate of roti.

Consumers said amid reduction in the wheat grain price, the administration should take prompt action against the naanbais refusing to reduce the bread rate.

Assistant deputy commissioner Gohar Ali was repeatedly contacted to know his version on the matter, but he didn’t pick calls.

However, another official said on condition of anonymity that the naanbais failing to follow the district administration’s instructions would face action.
