LAKKI MARWAT: A member of the Counter-Terrorism Department was martyred and a militant was killed in two separate incidents in southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa districts on Thursday night.

Police in Lakki Marwat said on Friday that Wahid, a member of the CTD Lakki, was attacked by armed motorcyclists in Gandi Khankhel area in the jurisdiction of Shaheed Asmatullah Khan Khattak police station of Serai Naurang town.

Wahid got critical injuries and died instantly. The body was shifted to a hospital, police said, adding funeral of the deceased was offered at the police lines.

Later, he was laid to rest in a graveyard in Nawab Kallay area with full official honour.

Meanwhile, the CTD claimed to have killed a militant commander in an exchange of fire in Talgai area of Bannu on Thursday night.

The CTD killed Mohammad Umar of Siddiqullah Gabrez group — a sub-group of Hafiz Gulbahadar group for Bannu district, during an intelligence-based operation, a statement said.

It said Umar was wanted by the CTD Bannu for his involvement in several attacks and targeted killing.

“As soon as the operation was launched, militants present in the area started indiscriminate fire at the CTD team,” the statement said, adding an exchange of fire continued for 30 minutes, in which Umar was killed, but his associates managed to escape.

The CTD team also recovered arms and ammunition from the spot.

Separately, a policeman was shot dead by rivals over a family dispute in Tajazai area of Lakki Marwat, police said.

They said Sharifullah, 36, and his father, Ravedin, 51, were in the Tajazai Adda area when their rivals, Naimatullah and Zainullah, riding a motorcycle opened fire on them.

They said Sharifullah died on the spot, while his father, who was buying foodstuff from a shop, escaped the attack.

The police said the deceased and attackers belonged to the Bettanni tribal subdivision.
