RAHIM YAR KHAN: Two police officials were martyred, while another critically injured allegedly when dacoits opened fire on a police vehicle in Khanbela town area in Sheedani Sharif police limits, Liaqatpur tehsil, some 90kms from here on Friday night.

According to police, they were informed that dacoits were looting shops in Khanbela area.

Acting on the information, a police team reached the spot.

On seeing the police, the dacoits opened fire on their vehicle that was retaliated by policemen.

In exchange of heavy firing, driver of police vehicle, Constable Shafiq Ahmed, was hit by a bullet and died on the spot.

Another Constable Zeeshan Khurram Bohar, who was injured in the dacoits’ firing, was shifted to the Sheikh Zayed Medical College Hospital (SZMCH), where he succumbed to his injuries.

Meanwhile, Constable Ishaq, who was also among the inured, is said to be in a critical condition at the hospital.

The dacoits fled away after the crossfire, while police have cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to arrest them.
