KARACHI: Police on Saturday arrested a young man for allegedly killing his cousin in Bath Island on Friday night.

The 28-year-old suspect had resorted to indiscriminate firing inside a building in which a passer-by was also wounded. The firing also triggered panic among the area residents.

Boat Basin SHO Naseer Tanoli said that the victim, 40-year-old Salman Anwar, was shot at and critically wounded when his cousin, Aamir Mansoor, opened fire on him behind the Ismaili Jamaat Khana in Clifton. Salman was taken to a private hospital in the area where died during treatment. Later on, the body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities.

The police after receiving information from the victim’s family rushed to the spot and arrested the suspect when he was allegedly attempting to flee from his house in Block-7.

They had registered a case under Section 302 (premeditated murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code against the held suspect on complaint of the victim’s sister, Saleema.

SHO Tanoli told Dawn that it transpired that both the cousins had some property dispute. He added that both the victim and suspect belonged to the Ismaili community.

Quoting their relatives, DIG-South Syed Asad Raza said that the property dispute had been going on between the cousins and the matter had also gone to the court. He said Salman was known as a gentleman in the community who was also associated with the administration of the Jamaat Khana in Clifton.

The officer said that the suspect was known as a ‘violent person’ and it was being probed as to from where he got the pistol which had been recovered by the investigators.
