DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Two policemen were injured when a bomb targeting a police vehicle went off here on Saturday.

A police official said an improvised explosive device planted by unknown miscreants hit the police vehicle near Chief Minister Ali Amin’s farmhouse in Hathala area on the Tank Road.

He said that the blast targeted the vehicle of DSP Kulachi circle Inamullah Gandapur when he was heading for a search operation along with his team.

The injured police personnel were shifted to a hospital.

They were identified as Mohammad Munir and Fazal Ameen.

Soon after the attack, a heavy contingent of police and security forces reached the site and cordoned off the area. They started a search operation to arrest the attackers.

Meanwhile, Dera district police officer Nasir Mehmood visited the District Headquarters Hospital, Dera, and enquired after the injured constables.

He asked the hospital’s administration to ensure provision of best treatment facilities to the injured.

Separately, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority’s teams on Saturday conducted operations and checked quality of food items in various shops on Multan Road here on Saturday.

On the directives of the authority’s deputy director, Dera Mohammad Asif, four different teams conducted operations and checked numerous shops and different food points. The teams seized a large quantity of expired drinks and destroyed them.

They also imposed fines on the shopkeepers for selling substandard food items. They also issued notices to several shopkeepers to improve hygienic conditions.

The food authority officials said actions were being taken to ensure availability of quality products to people. They said shopkeepers were being made to observe hygiene.
