TAXILA: Deputy commissioner Rao Atif Raza on Saturday said the district administration had established state of the art information technology (IT) laboratories in 24 different government schools of boys and girlsacross the Attock under “learn and earn” initiative.

He expressed these views while addressing students of Government Technical Training Institute Attock.

He said that 240 IT labs established across Attock district have been upgraded which is a unique initiative in the history of the district which would bring digital revolution.

He said that a sum of Rs250 million, generated through donations from notables and philanthropists of the area, had been spent on setting up of these labs and revenue. “After receiving training in these IT labs, students can achieve economic self-sufficiency through freelancing, graphic designing and other related courses,” he added.

Mr Raza said under this initiative 300 IT teachers underwent a five-day training programme, contributing to professional IT education in government schools.

Mr Raza said that the importance of IT skills is increasing day by day and is one of the most powerful forces shaping the world today and “we want students of the district to be equipped with such skills”.

He stressed the need for students to stay informed about the fundamental education of IT in the present era and understand the demands of the modern era through IT. He encouraged the students to change their destiny through the current programme and become self-sufficient.

Earlier during his visit, Government Technical Training Institute Principal Arsalan Ahmed briefed the deputy commissioner about the technical education imparting to students in the institute. He said that the IT lab is also providing various skills to the students for self-employment using internet based freelancing.
