ISLAMABAD: Sons of former Azad Kashmir prime minister Sardar Tanveer Ilyas, arrested a day ago in connection with a case registered against them, were released after they got bail from the court.

When contacted, the police public relations officer said the sons of the former prime minister were released on bail by a magistrate while other seven persons, including a brother of an adviser to the prime minister of Azad Kashmir, were sent to jail on judicial remand.

They were arrested by Margalla police after a raid on their houses in F-8 sector in connection with an FIR registered against 25 people, the PRO said, adding that during the raid the police also recovered arms and ammunition from them.

When the PRO was asked whether the four persons nominated in the FIR whose surname was Tanveer were the sons of the former Azad Kashmir prime minister, he expressed his ignorance and said out of the four persons two were released on bail.

The PRO said he would reply later after getting details, but did not respond despite being contacted repeatedly.

According to the FIR, the case was registered under sections 341, 506 (ii), 148 and 149 of the PPC in response to a complaint lodged by Sheraz Khan.

As per the FIR, the complainant was heading towards F-10 sector from his house located in Orchid Scheme. After he crossed Zero Point underpass, he found Faisal Avenue blocked.

Drivers of around 20 to 25 vehicles were doing stunts on the road after which he turned towards Khayaban Bridge and when the road was clear, he reached F-8 traffic signal, the FIR stated.

All of sudden 15 to 20 vehicles appeared there and cordoned off his car and 20 to 25 people armed with weapons disembarked, it said, adding that they started punching and kicking the complainant’s vehicle and two of them pointed weapons at him.

They also threatened him with dire consequences. One of them also made an attempt to snatch his wallet and mobile phone, the FIR added.

A police officer told Dawn that cameras of the Safe City Authority were installed on Faisal Avenue, but the police failed to keep an eye on the traffic violation as mentioned in the FIR.

The PRO said assistance was also taken from the Safe City Authority to arrest the nine persons, adding that for some reason, the cameras failed to spot the stunts committed on the avenue.
