UNIVERSITY ROAD: This is with reference to the letter ‘Delayed BRT project’ (May 24). On behalf of all those who have been suffering on this count, I endorse the views expressed in the said letter. The planners of the project appear to have something in mind that the people have failed to understand. They dug up the University Road, which had only recently been rebuilt, and then abandoned it just like that. The current pace of the project suggests it may not be completed even in a decade. The suffering, as such, will continue. The authorities concerned must probe the matter, and punish the planners of the project.

SAFETY NETS: Once protected on both sides by safety nets and barbed wires, the Peshawar-Islamabad Motorway (M1) has become a rather difficult stretch for commuting as the nets and wires have simply disappeared. It is now common on the motorway to see people waving hands in an effort to make vehicles, especially public transport vehicles, make an unscheduled stop. The risk of accidents on the motorway, as such, is high. The relevant authorities should reinstall safety nets and barbed wires immediately.

CYLINDER BLAST: This is with reference to the report ‘Cylinder blast, fire in Hyderabad leave two children dead, 48 people injured’ (May 31). Had Rescue 1122 teams and firefighters arrived timely, lives could have been saved. I could not stop crying when I visited the Liaquat University Hospital in Hyderabad. It was a horrific scene. Children with serious burns were crying in pain. Due to their critical condition, many of them had to be shifted to Karachi. Such incidents in Hyderabad are commonplace. This is because there are many gas cylinder shops in populated areas. The government should take action against those running liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder-filling shops in densely populated city areas. Failing to do so will have even more horrifying repercussions in the future.
