LAHORE: Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has said that the JI rejects the defamation law and regrets that the “black law” was passed in the dark of night.
In a statement, he said the JI was the first party to oppose and reject the bill.
He said Governor Saleem Haider’s foreign visit on this occasion raises many questions as the acting governor’s signing of the defamation bill is tantamount to banning freedom of expression.
He said both the PML-N and the PPP are equal partners in the preparation, approval and enforcement of this black law.
Mr Rehman said that the defamation law is a heinous attack on the constitutional right to freedom of expression.
