OKARA: A man stabbed his widowed sister-in-law to death after she refused to contract a marriage with him at village Gogera Khas on the Okara-Faisalabad road on Sunday.
As per the first information report, the husband of Sadia alias Lali (25), who belonged to a gypsy family, passed away sometime back. Her younger brother-in-law, identified as Intizar, wanted to marry her. When she refused his proposal, Intizar threatened to kill her.
On receiving death threats from him, Lali shifted to village Gogera Khas near Chak Khan Muhammad to live with her aunt. At night on Sunday, Intizar, along with his accomplices Badam and Younis, reached Gogera Khas and stabbed Lali to death with a sharp-edged weapon.
On the report of Lali’s brother, Boda, Gogera police registered a case against the suspects.
FOOD SAFETY: The University of Okara (UO) commemorated the World Food Safety Day with a seminar and product development and poster competitions organised by its Department of Food Science and Technology (FST) and Department of Human Nutrition & Dietetics (HN&D).
The event was aimed at fostering collaboration between the industry and academia. On the sidelines of a seminar, the UO signed five memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with the Abbottabad University of Science and Technology, Eastern Scientific Corporation, Pakistan Flour Mills Association, Salva Oil Mills and Cheezious to provide the students with internship, scholarships and job opportunities.
Addressing the seminar, the speakers from industry and academia addressed food safety and hygienic practices emphasising the importance of collaborative efforts for mutual benefits.
