SWABI: The district administration has set up 50 special cattle markets, which will become operational from Wednesday in different regions of Swabi, to provide an opportunity to customers to buy animals of their choice ahead of Eidul Azha, which falls on June 17 (Monday).

Officials of the district administration said the cattle markets were in addition to the regular markets held in Swabi tehsil, Tordher, Chota Lahor, Topi and Razaar.

They said the district administration would provide all facilities in the cattle markets.

Cattle dealers Abdul Latif and Sardar Khan said they had arranged sacrificial animals from Punjab, adding prices of livestock had increased manifold this year compared to the previous year.

Additionally, they said transportation charges of animals had also increased about 50 per cent.

Meanwhile, most people don’t buy sacrificial animals in advance because they don’t have the space to keep them, so they wait till the eve of Eidul Azha.

Ubaidur Rehman of Shahmansoor Township said he was planning to buy the sacrificial animal just a day before Eidul Azha.

Those who have bought animals in advance have kept them with the cattle dealers till Eid on payment.
