KASUR: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday attended the funeral prayers for Capt Faraz Ilyas at Rai Kalan village of Mustafabad, some 30km from here.

Capt Faraz Ilyas laid down his life on Sunday along with six other soldiers after an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded on their vehicle in Lakki Marwat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, IG police, military and civil officers, local administration, members of civil society and residents attended the funeral.

The PM also met the parents of the martyred captain and expressed his heartfelt condolences and prayed for the departed soul.

The prime minster announced renaming the village Rai Kalan after Capt Faraz Ilyas Shaheed. He also announced transforming the village into a model village with better facilities.

Later, in his X account, the prime minister said he was deeply saddened by the martyrs of Pak Army who laid down their lives while performing their duty.
