SHANGLA/SWAT/DI KHAN: Six members of a family were killed and three others injured when a mini jeep fell into a deep gorge in Bar Batkot area of Bisham tehsil of Shangla district on Monday night.

Dandai police station SHO Mohammad Arif Khan said Iqbal Rawan, a resident of Bar Batkot area, was taking his family back home from Maira area on Monday night when the jeep they were travelling in fell into deep gorge. He said the accident resulted in instant deaths of five women and Iqbal himself, while three other members of his family were injured.

SHO Arif said the accident occurred in a mountainous village, where road condition was dilapidated and mobile phone network didn’t work properly. He said local people pulled out the bodies and injured from the gorge and shifted them to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Bisham.

Later, he said the injured were shifted to Ayub Medical Complex in Abottabad in critical condition. He said bodies were handed over to families.

Police identified the deceased as Iqbal Rawan, Tasvisa, Namriqa, Naza Bibi, Jan Zari and Muslima Bibi, and injured as Navida Bibi, Muflika Mehak, 3, and Zarshed Khan.

Meanwhile, four people were killed and as many injured when a rickshaw overturned in Narkat area of Matta tehsil on Tuesday.

Matta police said a family from Buner district had come to Bagh Dherai to condole the death of a relative. They took a rickshaw from there to their relative’s home in Narkat area.

They said the three-wheeler went out of the driver’s control when the LPG gas cylinder inside it caught fire, and fell into a ditch, resulting in the death of four persons. They were identified as Socha, 60, Sajidullah, 20, and Bakhtzada, all residents of Buner, and Shakirullah, a resident of Kalakot.

A woman, Bakhtai, two-year-old Nisar, Umar Ali and Fayaz were seriously injured, and were shifted to a hospital for medical assistance.

In Dera Ismail Khan, a Levies man was killed and four other people were injured when a van collided with a mini-truck on Dera-Daraban Road on Tuesday.

The van was going from Daraban to Dera Ismail Khan when the incident occurred near Kulachi Mor. As a result, a Levies man, identified as Bashir Sherani, died on the spot.

The body and the injured were shifted to Mufti Mehmood Hospital.
