NAROWAL: Sialkot police have arrested a shopkeeper who chained a mentally-retarded girl.

According to police spokesman Najam Faraz, the police received information that the shopkeeper in Tehsil Bazar in Sambaryal has tied a mentally-disabled girl with an iron chain.

He said DPO Muhammad Hasan Iqbal took strict notice of the information and immediately sent a police team to the spot. The team recovered the girl and arrested shopkeeper Muhammad Arshad after Sambriyal police registered an FIR.

Later, police handed over the girl to her parents.

SUSPENDED: The Sialkot health chief executive officer has suspended eight employees, including area in-charge and lady health supervisor, for showing alleged negligence and incompetence in reporting dengue cases.

CEO Dr Muhammad Rehan has suspended eight employees on the recommendation of District Officer CDC entomologist for showing laxity in measures to control the spread of dengue.

The CEO took strict notice against the employees of Union Council Dobarji Arayan Tehsil Sialkot for not preventing the spread of dengue and not performing government duties.

Dr Rehan suspended area in-charge CD supervisor Muhammad Junaid, supervisor Owais Ghani, lady health supervisor Lubna Bibi, sanitary inspector Muhammad Afzal. The CEO also suspended four lady health workers Zeb Nisa, Shama Rukhsana, Neelam and Razia Bibi.
