SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: The former district president of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl, Maulana Mirza Jan Wazir, was seriously injured when unidentified armed men opened firing on his car on Wana bypass road here on Thursday evening.

Maulana Salah Uddin Wazir, the son of the JUI-F leader, told Dawn his father was shifted to district headquarters hospital in Wana for treatment.

DSP Amin Wazir said that the JUI-F leader was shot at by unidentified persons after he left his mosque on bypass road. He said that Maulana Mirza Jan was seriously injured in the attack.

Doctors at the district headquarters hospital said that they were operating upon the injured religious scholar. They said that they trying hard to save his life.

Sources said that Maulana Mirza Jan Wazir had attended a gathering in Sheen Warsak before he was attacked.
